WHY DO I USE BROCHURES IN EVANGELISM?
People are always asking why we use the brochures. When I am asked with such a question I always remember that God continues to use Bibles to speak to so many people. I also wonder why there is so much contempt, indifference and even persecution for those who want to use printed material to reach sinners.
The impression I have is that in eangelism you can use any method, except the written method. No, use no brochure! But why? Why the opposition? Why should we believe that a job that has been proven for centuries to be extremely efficient will be ridiculous?
According to Billy Graham, “Nothing surpasses a tract for sowing the seed of the Good News.” Why should a Christian use tracts? Simply because God uses them. He used a tract to save the great missionary Hudson Taylor, as well as innumerable others. That fact alone should be enough incentive for a Christian to always use tracts to reach the lost, but there are even more reasons why we should use them. Here are a few:
- Tracts can provide an opening for us to share our faith. We can watch people’s reaction as we give them tracts, and see if they are open to listening to spiritual things.
- They can do the witnessing for us. If we are too timid to speak to people about the things of God, we can at least give them tracts, or leave tracts lying around so that others will pick them up.
- They speak to the individuals when they are ready. They don’t read it until they want to.
- They can find their way into people’s homes when we can’t.
- They don’t get into arguments; they just state their case.
Dr. Oswald J. Smith said, “The only way to carry out the Great Commission will be by the means of the printed page.” Charles Spurgeon stated, “When preaching and private talk are not available, you need to have a tract ready…Get good striking tracts, or none at all. But a touching gospel tract may be the seed of eternal life. Therefore, do not go out without your tracts.”
When I was a child I got some brochures at the church and went out on the streets to distribute to the people. I was fully aware that I was not playing a simple role, but it was the written Word of God. Yes, I was giving the Word of God to people.
Honestly, I was always very happy when I saw people coming to our meetings and some said they were there because I handed that brochure. It’s just wonderful!
I have relatives who were saved because they received a leaflet. In my ministry, I have seen many lives saved because they were impacted by the written Word of God. And in the face of all this, the question that people still ask me is: “Why do you use leaflets in evangelism?”
Well, I’m not here to defend the idea that this is the only and the best method, but it is an excellent method. God has used it through the centuries and continues to use it today. The truth itself is that the method is not the most important, but the most important is your willingness to get up and do something for the souls that are perishing. We are using method, but God uses men for His Work to be accomplished
Think about it…
