Evangelism Support Points in Brazil 2023
In this post I want to make a summary report of the trip we made to Brazil in the last 3 weeks. We leave Paraguay, the city of Pedro Juan Caballero, towards the city of Aracaju in the northeast region of Brazil. But before arriving in Aracaju we passed through several places and in this post I want to talk a little about what God has done for our lives
On the map below I made my route through the regions where we needed to go. (see the map)
The first target was to pass through the city of Campo Grande, which is 215 miles (five hours away) from the region where we are on the border with Paraguay. Then our target was the city of Canavieiras in the state of Bahia and later the city of Aracaju. We needed to hold a series of meetings with local evangelists, provide guidance on the storage of materials, advise on developing the logistics of delivering materials, and many other matters.
Well, I did my calculations to make the trip and the day before we didn't even have 1/3 of the necessary money. If we went straight to the places we were supposed to go, we would walk approximately 3730 miles along the roads of Brazil, but we had to visit many villages, small villages to make contact with local workers and mobilize for evangelistic service. So I thought we would get to 4350 miles. The average cost of fuel in Brazil is US$1.20 per liter (in Brazil fuel is sold by the liter and not the gallon)
So I prayed to the Lord presenting the need for the work and our lack of money. I really didn't have 1/3 of the amount needed to make the trip, but the Spirit of God poured peace into our hearts and we made the trip. I got in the car on January 10th and we headed to the first city which was Campo Grande
Well, when we arrived in Campo Grande, we stayed at Pastor Bruno Miranda's house, who is responsible for the local Support Point. Pastor Bruno Miranda not only provides support, but he works hard to mobilize local evangelists. The southern region of Brazil is very lacking in evangelists and in addition to developing the support work, getting the written Word of God to the evangelists, it is necessary to work to raise local evangelists.
I praise God for the work Pastor Bruno Miranda is doing in that city. With Bruno we visited several local leaders, we went to see several places where we could place a greater amount of printed material, we met with brothers who support Bruno's work and we spoke about the expansion of the support service, the aim of making the materials reach the evangelists free of charge and other matters.
In the photo above I am with Pastor Bruno Miranda at his home in the city of Campo Grande. I request your prayers for this young pastor who is constantly out on the streets preaching the Word and tirelessly working to raise up new evangelism groups and support evangelistic groups with the written Word of God.
In the photo below I am with two pastors who are very supportive of the work in Campo Grande in terms of logistics. These pastors help us with vehicles to take the boxes with the printed materials, they support us by finding appropriate places to store the boxes and, above all, they pray for the work done. And my prayer is that God will put many local pastors to support the project on our way
Leaving the city of Campo Grande, we took the road and walked another 1330 miles. The roads in Brazil are terrible. In many places we couldn't go over 12 miles an hour as there were so many potholes in the road. Our car was damaged and we had to look for a mechanic a few times. But that's all part of the mission.
We arrived in the city of Canaveirias in the state of Bahia. I have contact with Pastor Wesley and he informed me that the coastal region is forgotten by the missions and by the large churches in Brazil, as there is a reputation for being a prosperous region, tourism and that the local church is able to advance without helping. But that doesn't match reality.
There are many very poor places, brothers who convert and don't even have money to buy a bible. Evangelists who only get some printed material for evangelistic work when someone from other regions brings it.
So we decided to send a small amount of printed material to Pastor Wesley and already work to start a local Support Point. At this very moment we are working to take 2 tons of printed materials and moil the evangelistic service throughout the region
In the center I am with my wife and on the far right and left is Pastor Wesley and his wife. Something I have learned during my time working in the support service for evangelists is that if we support as we already do, we will have a quick and giant result. Wesley is an evangelist who has been working to mobilize local churches for many years. What we are doing is supporting those who already do it and all we have to do is adjust our work vision with the vision he has for the region
Soon I will edit some videos recorded from this trip and I will show a little of the Canavieiras region, as well as Pastor Wesley talking a little about the evangelistic work he is doing in the region
After Canaveiras we continue our trips to the city of Aracaju. It was another 780 miles heading to the Brazilian northeast through the coastal region. In addition to continuing the journey, we stopped at many villages to collect evangelistic service information and note the addresses of pastors of small churches along the way. Our aim is to later mail the materials to the brothers and support the local service they are doing.
Upon arriving in Aracaju we gathered the local evangelists to talk about the support work. The idea was to convey the vision we have of expansion, the reach of new cities, the advancement of the evangelistic service in the coastal region and the involvement of brothers who can support the transport and storage of printed materials, involvement of volunteers, with the aim of reducing costs and get materials to local evangelists free of charge
In the center we have brother Assis who is the coordinator of the Support Point in the city of Aracaju, Brazil
The number of evangelists who receive support is quite large, but these brothers in the photo are the ones who help in the development of the Support Point in the city of Aracaju. Let us pray, for there is much to do.
Well, I want to end by saying that the whole trip was a true miracle. During the trip we started to receive some offers from brothers who responded to our request for help and sent their love offerings. With the resource we finalize the course and move forward with the work of God.
I want to thank everyone who supported this work. I address you who felt in your heart to send the offer and did so: It is with your participation that the work of God is being done.
OUR TARGET FOR BRAZIL
It is very complicated to work throughout Brazil through a single support base. We need to have several distribution sites, involve churches, volunteer brothers and create in each region a distribution system with volunteers to have the greatest reach and be able to make the evangelistic materials reach the hands of the evangelists at no cost.
Once again thank you for your attention and support. We pray that God raises more collaborators so that we can go further and reach more lives for Christ Jesus
God bless you
